What I do

Many designers are hired to fill roles not as “Web Designers” but as “Web Decorators”, and there is a great difference between the two.

I, as a Web Designer, will not only be a part of the concrete Visual Design. This is only one of the last steps of the process of building a successful Website. We will have to discuss what your objectives are and how your site will accomplish these, create meaningful content and coherent structure for this content to be intuitively found by users, abstract design (Wireframes) to get a grasp of where things will be and how the users will interact with the site, visual design to enhance the experience and brand recognition, site assembly with well written code and testing.

This may sound like a lot of different steps, but in reality these are not steps but needed processes for a Website to be successful that in many cases blend and iterate (as you may already know if Agile came to your mind as you were reading).

And one of the most important things that a Web Designer must have in mind is that a meaningful Website is one which pursues a specific objective and is geared towards achieving this objective. This may be increasing sales of your business while not spending that much more, building awareness towards your new brand or startup, saying how awesome your band is or perhaps building a community of like minded people.

A Website is not art. A Website has specific objectives that need the direction of a person who is well versed with the different aspects that I have described above. The guide and direction that a good Web Designer provides to a Website is the difference between success or pointlessness.

Note: Keep in mind that I used the term “Website” for simplicity’s sake, but I am also talking about “Web Applications”
